La MPS I è una malattia2 progressiva suddivisa in 3 sottotipi noti come sindrome di Hurler (MPS I-H), sindrome di Hurler-Scheie (MPS I-H/S), e sindrome di Scheie (MPS I -S).3 Tutti i sottotipi di MPS I sono causati dalla carenza dell’enzima α-L- iduronidasi, necessario per la degradazione dei glicosaminoglicani (GAG) eparan solfato e dermatan solfato,2,4 con conseguenti manifestazioni progressive e multisistemiche.2
